About us

The Baltistan Foundation is an NGO for international development cooperation, working for integral human development of the indigenous communities of the Hushe Valley in Baltistan, an isolated mountain region in northern Pakistan.

The people involved with the organization share a passion and respect for nature and especially for mountain areas, such as Baltistan, in the Karakoram mountain range. This magical place hosts the largest number of mountains over 6,000 meters high in the world and it is where four of the eight thousand meter peaks can be found: K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I and Gasherbrum II.

The traditional values of the world of mountaineering such as solidarity, friendship, respect for nature, perseverance, determination, hard work and optimism permeate the work of the Foundation.

Since the Foundation was established in 2001, its clear objective has been to equip the people in the area with the skills and infrastructure necessary to promote and manage their own mode of sustainable and objective economic development, for both men and women.

The local authority is responsible for the Iñurrategi Felix Baltistan Machulo Foundation (FIFBM) and is composed exclusively of people from the Hushe Valley.

Human and professional training is, therefore, one of the pillars of the Foundation. It is the key to the socio-economic development of the population and also a tool for the empowerment of women in the valley.
