Deaf-mutes children teacher sent a recognition letter

There are few things in life as gratifying as helping children, without exception, be able to attend school. In the struggle we have been carrying out in the Hushe Valley, we have seen the levels of schooling reach up to 82% from those of 40% in 2006.

This year we have begun to promote the schooling of deaf-mutes children in the Hushe Valley and we have managed to get five of them (all boys) to go to Skardu in order to begin their schooling, which is unfortunately far from the family environment, but it is the nearest specialized center thanks to the work of Aniqa Bano, a teacher who has specialized in working with deaf-dumb children, due to the fact that she is the mother of two girls with this disorder.

Aniqa works in the morning as a teacher in a state school and in the afternoon assists, along with her husband, the deaf-dumb children. Aniqa has sent a letter to the Felix Inurrategi Foundation-Baltistan Machulo, to everyone who makes it possible for these children, to whom many in their society consider to be children of sin and not fate, to be able to have access to a specialized education. The letter that we have reproduced below was written as a result of receiving 150.000 Rupias to cover the costs of the maintenance and education of the five children.

Dear Ka Shamshair,

As-salam-u-alaikum,

I hope you are fine. I would like to extend my heartiest gratitude and would like to acknowledge the receipt of 100,000/- PKR on 30-07-2015 as  reimbursement of fee of school and boarding of five children from Machulo Valley. We have received 50,000/- from Ka Shamshair two months ago. So total grant 150,000/ pkr is being received. The children are doing well. We hope to see a noticeable difference in children attitude. They are far more confident than before. The children are enjoying the company of other deaf and have become more communicative. They are learning American as well as Pakistani Sign Languages. Children are kept engaged in art activities as well.

I would pray for the good health and prosperity of respected people engaged in Felix baltistan locally and internationally. Though you live apart from us and still feel the pain we experience. Representing deaf parents here, I would say that its not easy to be parents of deaf in our part of world where people held notion that such children are born because of parent sin. The life of such people is very limited and deprived of facilities. In short I would say May God keep you healthy, happy , prosperous, satisfied for what you are doing for the people here and around the world. This is great blessing by God to have the empathetic feelings for others. Stay blessed always.

Best Regards

Aniqa Bano
