A new wave of avalanches destroys the Talis Village during the final stage of the reconstruction process following the floods of last summer

An avalanche of mud and stones engulfed the village ofTalis for the second time in a period of one year. There were no fatalities, but material damage of enormous magnitude occurred. 129 homes have been destroyed and about 50 hectares of wheat have been lost under the mud.

A year of collaboration between Mondragon University and the Felix Baltistan Foundation in the care of Borja Moreno: Renewable energy to guarantee basic good for the people of the Hushe Valley.

The thesis of a student of Industrial Design at the Mondragon University has been undertaken with the aim of improving the health and hygiene of the inhabitants of the Hushe Valley. New solar apricot driers have been introduced, as have optimized prototype solar hot water systems and the widespread use of solar ovens. The project is a step toward the achievement of basic human rights and is particularly aimed at women: the forgotten of the Valley. This has been funded by the municipalities of Bermeno (€8,000), Oñati (€1,250) and Zegama (€1,000).

The Hushe Valley residents reduce their geographical isolation thanks to the vehicle donated by Alex Txikon

The Felix Baltistan Foundation wants to show their appreciation to the mountaineer Alex Txikon for his donation of a car to the Foundation. Alex and his group will use the car during their expedition in summer 2011. The details of the expedition have been presented today at a press conference organized by Umpro, the company sponsoring the expedition.

Resume Talis Reconstruction works

The Felix Baltistan Foundation, in collaboration with the local organisation FIFBM and Talis Emergency Committee, has recommenced the reconstruction of the village of Talis in Baltistan (Pakistan.) The village was hard hit by monsoon rains in August 2010. During the months of the hard winter, with the help of two local architects, work has continued on optimizing the design of the houses.

Talis: end of first phase of reconstruction

Plan to Rebuild After the Floods

The Felix Baltistan Foundation is still working on the plan of reconstruction and rehabilitation of Talis, in Baltistan in northern Pakistan, a town hard hit by monsoon rains in August 2010. To this effect, it has been given donations of more than €50,000 from the Basque population. Although these donations are extremely helpful, they are insufficient to undertake all the necessary plans to help the victims.
